The Splice Shunt restores electrical conductivity and mechanical strength to automatic and compression splices that exhibit excessive heat or failure during thermal line inspections. Applied directly over existing damaged or failing splices, it addresses issues in overhead power distribution systems without requiring full connector replacement.<\/p>\n

The device features a lightweight design for easy installation by hand or with hot sticks and accommodates all-aluminum, aluminum alloy, and Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) conductor types. Customizable sizing ensures adaptability across various electrical systems. Rods are manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy with conductive grit on the inner surface to ensure reliable electrical contact with the cleaned conductor.<\/p>\n

Thermal ratings reach 125\u00b0C for ACSR, All Aluminum Conductor (AAC), and All Aluminum Alloy Conductor (AAAC), and up to 250\u00b0C for Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS) and Aluminum Conductor Composite Reinforced (ACCR) types. The design restores up to 100% of the conductor’s original electrical conductivity while providing mechanical reinforcement. Rods are sub-setted into groups for ease of application.<\/p>\n

Installation involves cleaning the conductor, applying a conductive oxide inhibitor, and wrapping the shunt securely around the splice. This method allows installations on energized lines, minimizing downtime.
